Holly LaBeau-BlueEyes- Site Coordinator
With all of the roles Holly has filled—student, teacher, administrator, mother—we can easily call her a Renaissance woman. When she came to Elevation in September of 2015, she fulfilled the role of Explorers’ teacher while taking courses in Early Childhood studies at New Mexico Highlands University. Now two years later, she nears completion of her final semester toward her B.A. in Early Childhood, Multicultural Education (she will student teach with Liz in the spring). But there’s no stopping there: Holly has been planning all along to pursue a Master’s degree in Academic Leadership/Administration and will begin coursework next fall. She credits Liz for “taking her under her wing” to help reach her goal of becoming a school director someday.
We also have Holly to thank for introducing us to her daughter, Raye, who is in high school yet has also become a cherished teacher here in the summer and in her free hours.
These days, Holly inhabits the office in her role as Site Coordinator, working on enrollment , student and employee scheduling, among other duties, which have helped strengthen our school’s infrastructure. But don’t underestimate her office duties, which often expand to singing during music time; Holly, after all, comes from a family of accomplished singers.
Alex Thornhill- Site Coordinator
Alex began working in December, 2014, in the early days of the Elevation School. Her start date came soon after a serendipitous event at a volleyball practice, which she attended along with Elevation’s Co-Director, Jessica. When Alex walked across the gym to console a crying child, Jessica observed her interaction. She asked Alex is she would be interested in working with children, and history was made! “Working with kids has changed the way I think about my future,” she says. She has been involved with many aspects of Elevation, including assistance in all the classrooms, teaching before and aftercare, and most currently, Site Coordinator in the administrative side of things.
Alex is enjoying her managerial role, and even changed her major to incorporate this new interest. At UNM, she is earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Management and Biology.
Alex says she has “a frequent flyer card for the ER,” which she attributes to one of her passions; she is an avid dirt-bike rider with twelve years of experience. Her many other hobbies include playing and coaching volleyball, drawing, writing, and flying hot-air balloons—she’s been with the “Little Bees” her entire life. She attributes her fortitude with all those times flying with her father up in the hot-air balloon and managing the vagaries of balloon flight in the air and on the ground. Alex has a knack for meeting challenges and getting back on her feet!
We’re thankful that Alex has chosen to grow with us and bring her vivaciousness to Elevation, where she always draws excitement from the children who enter a room with her.
